Help South Los Angeles residents
build a more secure future with the
COVID Retraining & Recovery (CORE) Fund

“My hope for the future is getting a better job, making sure my son is taken care of, and going back to school.”
Many South LA families were already economically vulnerable before the pandemic. But furloughs, reductions in wages and hours, and lack of access to educational resources for their children has increased their financial and emotional strain. Many are now at risk of slipping from poverty to extreme poverty or homelessness.
To respond to these challenges, the COVID Retraining & Recovery (CORE) Fund—an educational and career building initiative—was launched by these founding sponsors:
Ashley and Marc Merrill
(Founders of Lunya and Riot Games)
CORE will offer scholarships to South LA residents furloughed/laid-off due to COVID-19 to enable them to retrain in careers that are likely to be in high demand in a post-COVID economy, particularly in the healthcare and technology fields.
Our vision is to inspire our residents and neighbors with a commitment to their long-term health and economic security through scholarships and career development.
CORE will partner with local and national educational institutions, as well as workforce development organizations, to help ensure students commit and complete recertification programs paired with job placement and technical assistance services.
